Why summer is the perfect time to prioritize your health
By Shaina Zazzaro

Summer is one of the best times of year to reset your health.
The days are longer, the weather is warmer and nature provides the perfect backdrop to get moving, reduce stress and reconnect with healthy habits.
You don’t need an intense fitness program to benefit. Simple activities like walking, biking, swimming, gardening or playing with your kids can make a tremendous difference in how you feel.
Spending time outdoors offers benefits that go far beyond burning calories. Sunlight helps your body produce vitamin D, which supports immune health, bone strength and mood. Fresh air and movement can lower stress, improve sleep and boost your energy naturally.
Summer is also a great reminder that exercise should feel enjoyable.
Take a walk after dinner. Explore a local hiking trail. Go paddleboarding. Play pickleball with friends. Turn movement into something you look forward to rather than another item on your to-do list.
For older adults and seniors, staying active is especially important. Regular movement helps maintain strength, balance and independence, while reducing the risk of falls and improving overall quality of life. Even a daily walk, light stretching or gardening can provide tremendous benefits.
Remember, staying active doesn’t require perfection. It simply requires consistency.
Aim to move your body every day, even if it’s just for 20 to 30 minutes. Those small efforts add up and help you maintain your progress while enjoying everything the season has to offer.
Most importantly, use summer as an opportunity to create healthy memories with your family. Go for bike rides, visit the beach, take nature walks and spend less time indoors.
When the sun is shining, take advantage of it.
Get outside. Soak up the sunshine. Move your body. Nourish yourself well.
Your body and mind will thank you for it.
