The facility’s dedicated staff and volunteers provide care for residents in a homey setting, keeping them as symptom-free as possible and striving to meet their physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs. Those seeking to be admitted to The Sunset House must be referred to it by one of two local hospice programs.

UR Medicine Hospice offers hospice care for patients in Monroe, Ontario and Yates counties who have been determined to be terminally ill by their physician and a hospice director and have six months or less to live. Medical practitioners, social workers, physical therapists, social workers, counseling professionals and other specially trained personnel all work together to help patients live with dignity, comfort and peace at the end-of-life. Patients can spend those days at home, in a nursing home, hospital or comfort care home, or in a special hospice unit or center. The team also helps those who are close to patients cope with the coming loss. UR Medicine Home Care also provides the We Honor Veterans program, under which veterans receiving hospice care get the proper attention they deserve and a hero’s welcome home in their last days.
