The Arc of Monroe provides a range of programs for those in the Rochester area who have intellectual or developmental disabilities and their families. Those it supports can partake of day programs, job training and placement programs, supported employment, opportunities to volunteer in the community and other offerings. For those in need of appropriate places to stay, the agency has residential housing available. The nonprofit also assists professionals, businesses and schools that are involved with those who have intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Cameron Community Ministries provides support programs for neighborhood residents. These include after school educational programs, recreational programs, and a digital computer lab that residents can use to create resumes, file necessary paperwork online or just access the Internet. Those hoping to use the computer lab must schedule an appointment. Those in need can also turn to it for free food, clothing and hot meals. Hot meals are served noon–1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Those hoping to obtain free food from the food pantry must call for an appointment.

Empowering People’s Independence (EPI), previously Epilepsy-Pralid, provides comprehensive services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, epilepsy, and neurological and chronic health conditions. EPI’s offerings include self-direction, community habilitation, support groups, education, advocacy and respite. EPI also offers the only week-long overnight camp for children and young adults with epilepsy in New York state.

Huther Doyle Health Home is a case management system that helps Medicaid recipients stay healthy while avoiding hospital stays and visits to emergency rooms. Those eligible for the program must either struggle with two or more chronic health conditions (such as diabetes, heart disease or a substance abuse disorder), or have a significant mental illness, or be living with HIV/AIDS. The program’s case managers help their clients navigate health care systems, coordinate their medical appointments and link them to sources of affordable housing, food, clothing, transportation and other necessities.
