New President and COO — Jill Graziano was appointed president and chief operating officer of United Memorial Medical Center. She remains president and COO of Unity Hospital. With more than a decade of leadership experience at Rochester Regional Health, including serving as senior vice president overseeing extended care, pharmacy and care management opperations, she brings deep expertise in managing complex care delivery systems. Prior to joining RRH, Graziano served as director of marketing strategy for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. She holds an MBA from the University of Rochester’s Simon Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY College at Brockport.

“Jill’s track record of delivering results, building strong cross-functional teams, and leading through complexity makes her exceptionally well-suited to guide UMMC through its next chapter,” said Jennifer Eslinger, president of health care operations and COO at Rochester Regional Health. “Her expanded role will support deeper integration, shared best practices, and a steadfast focus on delivering exceptional care to the Batavia community and surrounding areas.”

• Excellence in Emergency Medicine — United Memorial Medical Center was awarded the prestigious Lantern Award by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). UMMC is one of just 96 emergency departments in the country to receive this honor in 2025, recognizing excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research. The ENA Lantern Award sets a national benchmark for exceptional emergency care. Recipients are selected for a three-year cycle after a rigorous application process, during which emergency departments demonstrate how they go beyond the expected to deliver innovative, collaborative and patient-centered care. The Lantern Award also highlights a department’s focus on creating a supportive and healthy work environment. It underscores how emergency teams care not only for patients in critical moments, but also for each other through teamwork, resilience, and professional development. Now in its 14th year, the Lantern Award has become one of the most respected indicators of excellence in emergency nursing. The 2025 list includes a record number of recipients from across the United States as well as the first recognized departments in Saudi Arabia and Montana.

• Baby-Friendly Hospital — United Memorial Medical Center  once again achieved the highly prestigious international Baby-Friendly designation after a rigorous review process conducted by Baby-Friendly USA. UMMC received its first designation as a Baby-Friendly hospital in 2019. This re-designation period will run until 2030. This designation demonstrates that UMMC adheres to the highest standards of care to help mothers and their babies get off to a healthy start by having skin-to-skin care right after birth, rooming in or allowing healthy babies to stay in the room with their mothers during their hospital stay, and breastfeeding when babies are ready. These standards are built on the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for optimal infant feeding support in the first days of a newborn’s life. The positive health effects of breastfeeding are well documented and widely recognized by health authorities throughout the world as one of the best ways to boost infants’ immune systems, lower the risk of infections, and promote cognitive development. For mothers, breastfeeding supports postpartum recovery and builds a nurturing bond with their child.
