• Twenty-five consecutive years as a Baby-Friendly Hospital — Rochester General Hospital has been designated Baby-Friendly for the 25th consecutive year, making it one of only eight hospitals in the United States to reach this milestone and marking a quarter century of excellence in maternity and newborn care. The internationally recognized Baby-Friendly designation is awarded following a rigorous review process conducted by Baby-Friendly USA. The designation signifies adherence to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. These standards are grounded in the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to support optimal infant feeding and bonding during the critical first days of life. “We are incredibly proud of Rochester General Hospital for achieving 25 consecutive years of Baby-Friendly designation,” said Eileen FitzPatrick, CEO of Baby-Friendly USA. “Sustaining this designation for a quarter century speaks to the deep commitment of the care teams who show up every day for families at one of the most meaningful moments of their lives. Rochester General Hospital’s dedication to breastfeeding support, early bonding, and family-centered care has made a lasting impact on generations of parents and babies, and we are honored to recognize this extraordinary achievement.”
• Orthopedic Program Recognized — Rochester Regional Health in 2025 was included in the Becker’s Hospital Review 2025 list of 100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopedic Programs. This national recognition highlights health systems leading the way in orthopedic innovation, advanced surgical care and outstanding patient outcomes. The Rochester Regional Health Orthopedic Service Line performs more than 18,000 orthopedic surgeries and manages over 180,000 outpatient visits each year. As a regional leader in orthopedic urgent care and joint replacement, RRH completes more than 6,000 procedures annually across hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, ankles, and cervical spines. The system excels in navigated and robotic techniques, performing over 1,000 robotic-assisted total knee replacements annually. “Rochester Regional Health’s inclusion in Becker’s list for the third time underscores the expertise, dedication, and innovation of our orthopedic teams,” said physician Gordon Whitbeck, executive medical director of orthopedic medicine . “From advanced robotic techniques to comprehensive joint replacement and sports medicine programs, our clinicians are setting a new standard for excellence in musculoskeletal care.”
Adding to this record, Rochester General Hospital and Unity Hospital have each earned Blue Distinction Center designations for knee and hip replacement from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. The Rochester Ambulatory Surgery Center received the Blue Distinction Center+ designation; an enhanced recognition for knee and hip replacement excellence.
Fifth Magnet Recognition — Rochester General Hospital achieved magnet recognition for the fifth time in summer of 2025, reaffirming its nursing professionalism, collaboration and exceptional patient care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program distinguishes healthcare organizations that meet the rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for the professional nursing practice. This accomplishment places Rochester General among an elite group: only 89 hospitals nationwide have achieved five magnet designations out of more than 600 magnet-recognized organizations. The hospital’s emergency department and patient experience metrics were specifically noted for outperforming national benchmarks. “Magnet recognition is a tremendous honor and reflects our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to this community,” said Rochester General Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Shari McDonald. “Earning this designation once is remarkable—achieving it five times speaks volumes about the dedication and excellence of our nurses and entire team.”
• National Awards for Cardiac, Stroke and Diabetes Care — Rochester General Hospital and two other hospitals within the Rochester Regional Health — Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and United Memorial Medical Center — received prestigious honors from the American Heart Association (AHA) through its Get With The Guidelines program. These recognitions highlight the health system’s commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based care for heart, stroke, and diabetes patients. The Get With The Guidelines program is a national initiative by the AHA that provides hospitals with evidence-based treatment protocols and tools to improve patient care. Hospitals participating in the program are eligible for recognition based on their adherence to specific performance measures. Rochester General Hospital celebrated 12 consecutive years receiving Get With The Guidelines-Gold Plus Achievement in Heart Failure Care as well as Get With The Guidelines: Gold Plus Achievement in Stroke Care Gold-Plus and Rural Stroke Gold rankings represent the highest levels of recognition available through the program.
