Summer is Here: Get Outside and Get Moving

Healthy living isn’t just about what you eat — it’s about what you do, too

Summer in Upstate New York is short. So let’s make the most of every sunny day.

This season is the perfect chance to shake off the winter slump, get outside and remember how good it feels to move your body.

Movement doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need fancy gear or a two-hour gym routine. Some of my favorite workouts happen outside: a morning walk with a good playlist, a hike with my kids or a bike ride to a local park.

I always tell people: motion is medicine.

It clears your head, boosts your mood and keeps your body strong. When the sun’s out, there’s really no excuse not to get a dose of fresh air.

Don’t overthink it. Take your coffee on a walk. Park farther away at the store. Plan weekend adventures that get you moving — a swim at the lake, a stroll through a farmers’ market, even yard work counts!

And here’s my favorite tip: find a movement buddy. It’s a lot harder to skip that evening walk or morning pickleball game when someone’s waiting for you.

As we all get busier this summer, remember that healthy living isn’t just about what you eat — it’s about what you do, too. Your body was made to move and the more you do it, the better you’ll feel.

So get out there, soak up the sun and move that amazing body of yours. Summer won’t last forever — but the habits you build now can carry you through every season.
