Groups invest $2.1M to expand local health equity resources

Greater Rochester Health Foundation and Rochester Area Community Foundation have announced a funding partnership resulting in an additional $440,035 awarded to nonprofit organizations in the region, bringing the total investment in expanding health equity resources to $2.1 million.

The Health Foundation’s responsive grantmaking initiative, Call for Ideas, supports community-driven solutions that address the root causes of health inequities and reflects the principles of trust, equity, and community-led change. Rochester Area Community Foundation sees access to good healthcare as one of the essential supports people need from their communities. This funding partnership reflects the Community Foundation’s commitment to leveraging complementary strengths to address critical community needs.

Together, the foundations have expanded the reach of available funding to support more organizations doing critical, on-the-ground work across the region. In all, 32 grassroots and nonprofit organizations have been awarded grants across a nine-county area of service: Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates Counties.

During this time, when new threats to health equity emerged across the nonprofit sector, the Greater Rochester Health Foundation and Rochester Area Community Foundation recognized the importance of investing in mental health, basic human needs, and food security. Both foundations prioritized support for LGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrant and migrant communities, veterans, and people with disabilities—and that commitment will continue.
